I came from the 7th (as a medic) Late 1963 when the 3rd was formed and I can't recall that they had their own Aviation, but I don't think so. I left there in early 1964 and went to the 10th. The 10th had an Aviation Detachment. I took my Flight School acceptance flight with them. I have no idea about the 8th.
I was in the 3rd & 8th from 3/65 to 12/65, when I got orders for Nam, to Co A, 5th SFG A-104 served from 1/66 to 12/66 on A-104:

I was assigned to F. Co 8th SFG(A) from 1966-1968. The 1SG was 1SG Broome, The CO was Maj (Wild Bill) Shackleford At that time we were flying CH-21 Shawnee helicopters and U-10 fixed wing at Simmons AFF at Ft. Bragg. My Plt Sgt was Sam Parsons. The Maintenance officer was CW4 Parker. I was a crewchief on one of the CH-21's at first then went to the U-10's after the 21's were turned in. We then started to get UH-1B's into the unit. Co. F of the 8th was deactivated and I was assigned to HHC 3rd SFG(A). My Plt Sgt there was SSG Harrell. Some of the other folks I remember from that time was SSG Chuck Baker, SSG Chuck Davis, SSG Mills, SP5 Leatherwod, SP5 Bramblett, SSG Poole (Flight Operations NCO), CWO Barbie Underwood, CWO Basney, CWO Del Conte (Killed in crash of Golden Knights C-47 in early 70's), CWO Charlie Quann, SP6 John Trevino, SP6 Luther Townsend, Sp5 England. Man, those were the good old days!! I loved it back then. I left for Viet Nam in Feb 68 and never made it back to SF AVN until 1980 when assigned to the 10th SFG(A) in Bad Tolz, Germany. Some of the best years of my life were spent with SF and I dearly miss the comraderie...........This is Mlovell22.....Out

I didn't know there was still an Aviation Det in Toelz in 1980.
If I had only known, I would have gone back to paradise after vacationing in SE Asia.
