Mark Cooper was a 1979 Distinguished Military Graduate of the Arkansas Tech University ROTC program. He entered the Army as an Infantry Second Lieutenant in September 1979, attended the Infantry Officer Basic Course and Mortar Platoon Officers Course at Fort Benning, GA, and was assigned to the 1st Brigade of the 8th Infantry Division (MECH) in Mainz, Germany. He served as an Infantry Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader, Brigade Assistant S-4, Battalion Motor Officer and Battalion S-4. After the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, he completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in Feb, 1985 and then the Special Forces Underwater Operations Course. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion 7th Special Forces Group, where he commanded two SCUBA ODAs and was the Battalion S-4. He was reassigned in October 1988 to the Army Special Operations Forces Europe in Bad Toelz, Germany as the Chief of Logistics Plans for Southern Europe/Africa. In June 1991 he took command of A Company, 1st Battalion 10th Special Forces Group. He was reassigned to be the Commander of ODB-2, Special Operations Detachment, Joint Readiness Training Center in November 1992 at Fort Polk, LA. His final assignment was as the Chief of Unit Training, DCSOPS, USASOC, where he retired on 30 September 1996. Since retirement, he has worked as a Training Specialist for the ARSOF Simulations Center, as a financial planner, and since 2003, as a Future Training Concepts Specialist for the JFK Special Warfare Center at Fort Bragg, NC.
