Special Forces Association - Assistant Secretary
Chris Zets entered the Army in 1978 for direct assignment to Special Forces. He completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in January of 1979 and was assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group. In 1984 he was reassigned 3d Bn, 7th Special Forces Group in Panama. He returned to Ft. Bragg in 1988 to serve as an instructor in the Special Warfare Center and School, and in 1992 returned to 7th Group as the Team Sergeant for five years in Ft. Bragg and Panama.
After promotion to SGM in 1997 and completion of the Sergeants Major Academy, he returned again to the 7th Group for three years in numerous Sergeant Major positions. Upon appointment to Command Sergeant Major in September 2001, Chris was assigned to 3d Bn, 3d Group where he participated in deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq. Upon his return from Iraq, he was assigned as the CSM of Camp Mackall for two years overseeing the field portions of the Special Forces Qualification Course. In October 2005, he assumed duties as the Group Command Sergeant Major for the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) where he completed two rotations to Afghanistan prior to his retirement in 2008 after over 30 years of service.
Chris is enjoying his retirement and finally getting in some hunting and fishing and spending much earned time on his motorcycle. He works as a contractor and works daily with the SF Groups and the Special Warfare Center. Chris assumed his position as the SFA Assistant Secretary in August 2008. In addition to serving the SFA, Chris is also on the Board of Directors for the newly formed Green Beret Foundation.
